Famed Pianist Returns to the New York Stage After Hand Surgeries

The Wall Street Journal published a feature article on Misha Dichter, classical pianist and HSS patient, which covered his journey recovering from Dupuytren's contracture. Dupuytren's is a condition that causes one or more fingers to stay bent toward the palm due to an overgrowth of collagen.

Due to his restricted hand movement, the article reported that Dichter had difficulty playing the piano and sought treatment from HSS hand and upper extremity surgeon Scott W. Wolfe, MD.

"He was not going to give up until his hands were back on the piano keys," said Dr. Wolfe.

According to the article, Dr. Wolfe performed corrective surgeries on both of Dichter's hands and prescribed physical therapy.

Currently, Dichter is recovered and will perform his first solo program since 1999 at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall this week.
